Welcoming His Excellency, The Most Reverend Ronald A. Hicks, Archbishop of New York

May 13, 2026

Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center welcomed Archbishop Ronald A. Hicks, the newly installed Archbishop of New York, for his first visit to the children’s center this past Monday, May 4, 2026.

As he toured the 169-bed, 24/7 post-acute center for children and young adults with some of the most severe and complex medical conditions, he offered heartfelt blessings to residents, families and staff. CEO Pat Tursi briefed the Archbishop on the ongoing aging out crisis affecting young adults aging out of pediatric care at 21 and shared construction progress on Elizabeth Seton Children’s young adult center, the first of its kind in the world, specifically designed to care for this unique and growing population. They also discussed the ongoing challenge to raise the $22 million needed in working capital to open this new home in January 2028.

“We are very grateful that the Archdiocese recognizes the importance of the work we do and the value of each of our cherished residents. With the Archbishop’s presence in our organization, we feel the Holy Spirit overflowing. Our community is so devoted to this life-changing mission, and this is what gives us even more strength to continue to create possibilities for our beloved children, young adults and their families,” said Tursi.

During his visit, the Archbishop imparted words of encouragement and hope to the Elizabeth Seton Children’s community in attendance: “What’s happening here is not only something special, it is living the mission of the Church. This is what turning faith into action looks like. This place – this mission – is the proof of what happens when you live it every day,” Archbishop Hicks said. “For those who support Elizabeth Seton Children’s, I say thank you for introducing their mission to me. I could not be more honored and overjoyed to be here. I pray that you continue to be blessed in this work – today and always.”

The Most Reverend Ronald A. Hicks was appointed Archbishop of New York by Pope Leo XIV on December 18, 2025. He had previously served as Bishop of Joliet, appointed there by Pope Francis on July 17, 2020. He was installed at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on February 6, 2026.
