Elizabeth Seton Children's Celebrates Topping Off for Young Adult Center

May 28, 2026

Elizabeth Seton Children’s hosted an unforgettable ceremony to place the final steel beam atop its pioneering young adult center on May 18, 2026. This Topping Off Celebration marks a new chapter for Elizabeth Seton Children’s as they work to address the urgent aging out crisis and develop the first of its kind young adult center in the world. This new center will serve young adults ages 18 to 35 with complex medical needs.

“Our young adult center is revolutionary. It will change the landscape of health care and set the bar for all that will follow,” said Pat Tursi, CEO of Elizabeth Seton Children’s. “Today is for the remarkable young adults and families at the heart of this mission. Residents like Stephanie and Kevin, who are here with us today, along with the future residents whose families have placed their trust in us and have dreamed of this moment for years.”

In attendance to support this transformative project were Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, Director of FHA Finance for the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust Terrance Pearson and President of the Westchester Putnam Building and Construction Trades Council and Business Manager of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 137 Jeff Loughlin, as well as Board Members, project partners, generous donors, young adults and their families and staff from across the Elizabeth Seton Children’s family of organizations.

Modern advances in medicine and technology have allowed more individuals with medical complexity to thrive past their childhood and teenage years and into adulthood than ever before. However, pediatric placement ends at age 21. For most, aging out means transferring to a geriatric nursing home that is unsuited to provide the around-the-clock, highly specialized medical and emotional care that they require and deserve. This $156 million young adult center, more than 10 years in the making, changes that.

With construction continuing and a goal to open in early 2028, the organization has $22 million left to raise in working capital to bring this vision fully to life. For more information on aging out and Elizabeth Seton Children’s future young adult center, please visit our aging out crisis page.
