More Than a Baseball League
Team Seton for the win!

August 14, 2022

Summer brings out the inner child in all of us and for our children and young adults at Elizabeth Seton Children's Center, we find every opportunity to have exciting moments of fun under the sun!

This season, a group of our residents were able to participate in a well-loved summer pastime: baseball. Through the Miracle League of Westchester, a nonprofit that gives individuals with disabilities the opportunity to play baseball in an organized league, we were able to make these outings possible for our residents.

Partnering with the Miracle League was an obvious decision for Megan Fava, a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, who is constantly on the lookout for new ways for our children to experience the joys of childhood.

"Seeing the kids leave our facility for the first time since COVID was a really special experience. They got to meet other kids from the community and were given the chance to play baseball as independently as possible," Megan said.

Rick Monzon, of the Miracle League of Westchester, remembers his first game when his son first stepped up to the plate in 2006.

His son, who now volunteers as an assistant coach, will be 21 this year and Rick is now the Miracle League's Executive Director. "We love it because these are families that otherwise thought their kids couldn't participate," Rick explained.

"It was really fun and I had a really great time," said Stephanie, a resident representing Team Seton. Stephanie brought a bit of her own signature flair to the baseball games, adding with a smile, "I even got to use my pink bat!"
