For the Love of Reading

June 18, 2026

At Elizabeth Seton Children's, we strive to give every young person we serve opportunities to experience the simple joys of childhood. As we celebrate the end of another successful school year and the many accomplishments of our students, we're reflecting on how that belief took shape when Elizabeth Seton Children's School in Yonkers recently hosted its very first Scholastic Book Fair.

For our children and young adults with complex medical needs who live at Elizabeth Seton Children's Center, events like this carry special meaning. They reflect our commitment to ensuring every resident who attends our on-site school can know the same joy, inspiration and sense of independence found in schools everywhere.

"School is a place of exploration and discovery," said Elisa Witt Suarez, Assistant Principal. "Being able to share the love of reading with our students was an absolute pleasure. Our staff works tirelessly to ensure our students have every opportunity to be part of normalizing events, like this."

With vibrant displays and plenty of stories across all genres to choose from, a sense of wonder filled the room as students explored the fair, which took place over the course of a week. Watch highlights.

Our book fair generated more than $4,000 in Scholastic Rewards that will be reinvested directly into our classrooms. These funds will help purchase new books and resources, ensuring our students continue to have access to engaging, age-appropriate materials.

We are deeply grateful to our partners at Scholastic and our Seton community for making this first-ever event so memorable and we can't wait to build on it more next year!

In the meantime, we have created a year-round Amazon wish list of books to help our young people learn about emotions, build coping skills and feel supported. If you'd like to be part of this effort, please consider donating a book from our Amazon wish list.
